Nowhere Boys: The 5th Boy is an interactive online video game that coincided with Season 1 of Nowhere Boys. Created by Matchbox Pictures and built by Melbourne-based online developers Millipede, The 5th Boy was released on the ABC Me website on November 7, 2013, and on February 12, 2014, on the iTunes store.

Gameplay[]

The game allows the player to take on the persona of a fifth "Nowhere Boy," who is lost in a strange world and has to try to find his way home. The platforms in Nowhere Boys: The 5th Boy were intertwined to give the player the feeling that they are directly in control of the direction of the Nowhere Boys television series. For example, when the player passed objects through the tears in the game, the object would appear in the show. These objects helped the Nowhere Boys on their mission and were often key to their survival.

In The 5th Boy, the player controls the protagonist, the "5th Boy," who is able to wield the five elements throughout the game – water, fire, earth, air and spirit – as they are unlocked through the talisman. The boy uses these elements as his main weapons, fighting against the Darkness.

Trapped in a decaying Negative Space, the 5th Boy is also able to use his jump ability to get over large gaps in the world.

Reception[]

Nowhere Boys: The 5th Boy was publicly acclaimed by many players. Passionate ABC Me reviewers Steven "Bajo" O'Donnell and Stephanie "Hex" Bendixsen, hosts of Good Game and Good Game: Spawn Point, reviewed The 5th Boy and scored it 7.5/10 and 7/10, respectively. The pair of them acclaimed the game for its localisation and Australian accents, but criticised it for its annoyances and glitches.[1]
